Visit Essex, in association with Archant, are very pleased to be hosting the first Essex Tourism Awards, showcasing the high quality and professionalism of the county’s tourism industry. The awards will help to challenge negative perceptions of Essex whilst rewarding those businesses who are passionate about the county and its tourism product. There are 13 categories for which you can nominate your business and all winners will be automatically short-listed to the regional East of England awards.

The awards were officially launched on Thursday 21st May at the Essex County Cricket ground in Chelmsford where Julian Reed, editor of Essex Life Magazine, made a short speech stating “With the weathermen predicting a glorious summer and the economists saying that more of us will be holidaying in the UK, this is the perfect time to promote all that our county has to offer through the new Essex Tourism Awards” If you think that you have what it takes to be the best, visit http://www.visitessex.com/Essex_Tourism_Awards.aspx and nominate yourself today! Supported by an ECC grant, this innovative project will enable the district, to connect to fast broadband with throughput speeds of a ground breaking 100Mb/s. Remarkably - no telephone line is required to receive this service - instead it will be delivered through radio transmissions. The launch event will take place in Promenade Park, Maldon at 8.45am on Monday 10 May 2010.

East of England Tourism will be running a series of training courses and environmental advisory visits in the Maldon area as part of its new project 'Sustainable Tourism East'.
